Personality:

To most, Moira carries herself with elegance and detachment. She presents a cold formality to those that she interacts with, one that doesn’t invite anything other than pleasantries, and when it’s infused with a personal touch, she is either sarcastic or flowery. When working, her tone is clipped and to the point.

There’s a lot of dryness with how she interacts with others, but Moira herself is anything but. She is an intensely passionate person, but that passion is directed purely to Academic areas. Her field of specialty is Genetics, but she seems to have an interest in all scientific fields as well as classic literature. Her love of knowledge is not limited to the theoretical. She has an interest in environmental anomalies, such as omnics gaining spiritual enlightenment. Given the choice, she prefers to be the observer.

She has a particular interest in humanity – not in an altruistic manner, but in their personal and biological capabilities. From her research methodology, it’s safe to assume that she has a fascination with the taboo. It’s possible this might be because she wants to know what knowledge has been hidden under collective societal squeamishness.

For Moira, knowledge is the highest good one can attain in the world. Knowledge can create and destroy everything in existence. Through knowledge, she has done things thought to be impossible by others, for good or for ill, and believes it’s her right to do so as a knowledge-seeker. ‘My will made real’ is her Ultimate catchphrase. She has a tendency to come off as arrogant, and she might be, but it’s a personal confidence in her own competence. Should she find herself wanting in a particular field, she is quick to revise her opinions.

Petty morality is nothing but a deterrent to her goals. Politics, organizations, and relationships are mere tools for her to acquire the best resources for her research. To her, the ends truly justify the means.

To say Moira hates or feels maliciously about people would be false. She doesn’t care enough to hate individuals. Her blatant disregard of morality and consent has made people righteously wary of her, however. She often gathers data from people for her research, sometimes non-consensually, and in ways that may be harmful to them.

It is possible for her to respect people. If she sees an individual with a similarly inquisitive mind, she will respect them. If she sees them make logical decisions regardless of the law or morality, she will respect them. Moira might be manipulative, but she’s more inclined to listen to and even side with people she respects. Gabriel Reyes recognized her brilliance despite her reputation, so they’re together from Blackwatch to Talon.

Moira, by herself, is a fully-realized individual. She’s steady, confident, cool-headed, and highly disciplined. She seeks neither recognition nor reward for her work, believing knowledge as an end in itself. Left to her own devices, she’s emotionally stable. It’s people that tend to bring her grief. In a moment of exasperation in the game, she grouses about having no support, likely because the scientific community spurned her. While not actively seeking it out, she seems to desire connection and recognition from other people. For all her inner strength, the desire for connection remains an inescapable part of human biology, and she, much like others, is not exempt.

Abilities and Nerfs:

BATTLE OUTFIT

There’s a part of Moira’s outfit, particularly a small tank attached to her back, that, although not explicitly stated anywhere, collects the energy she saps from others. For the purposes of the RP, her normal abilities with biotic grasp will be nerfed unless she has her outfit on. Without it, she seems to only be able to sap/heal herself.

BIOTIC GRASP: LEFT

Her left arm has the ability to heal and reconstruct multiple people in a matter of seconds. Without her battle outfit on, she can give some strength to people and heal small, minor injuries. With it on, as well as a full tank, it can restore people that are almost dead or heal fatal injuries.

BIOTIC GRASP: RIGHT

Her right arm has the ability to sap the energy out of people and use it to restore herself and/or store it in the tank of her outfit. Without her battle outfit on, she can only render people immobile for minutes. She can use it to restore herself, like taking a partner’s energy so she can keep going. With it on, instead of being able to kill people, it will only render them unconscious.

BIOTIC ORB

Moira can launch an orb that can heal or sap the energy of people that are near it. It only lasts for 10 seconds, and it takes 10 seconds for her to release one again.

FADE

Moira can turn into a shadow and travel almost 20m in 0.8 seconds. She can only this every 6 seconds.

COALESCENCE

When she collects enough energy in her tank, she can use Coalescence – a beam that can sap the energy and heal multiple people in a range of 30m for 8 seconds. This will not be nerfed, but I can’t imagine she’ll be wearing her battle outfit enough to use it.

Moira flipped through the contract again.

Interesting.

Their methods were objectively questionable, and indeed, they certainly knew it was – otherwise they wouldn’t have put such a definitive contract for her to see when she regained consciousness. It was an abduction carefully designed to look like a bad decision. A tactic to redirect blame to the victim. She had no doubt the others would’ve revolted against it, but Moira couldn’t help but be fascinated by it all. It wasn’t her style, but the sheer ruthlessness was almost respectable.

She hadn’t accessed her communicator yet, but she could already imagine the sort of mental adaptation the others would’ve done to adjust to their new setting – anger, grief, the destruction of ego, all in varying degrees. Violence? Some might attempt it. Objectification of the body. Readjusting world views. The taboo rising to the surface, becoming acceptable, but then, was it not the taboo that made it desirable in the first place? It was like they were lab mice, but perverted, in a sense. Back in Academia, she could recall jokes about planes and towers and weapons’ phallic shapes as a sign of the id taking form in the respectable outer world. Here, the unconsciousness was not only accepted, it was desired and celebrated.

Yes, she will participate. It would be interesting to document others’ reaction to the station, as well as her own.

It wasn’t as if she was clean herself. When exposed to the obscene and unacceptable, her reaction had always been, why? She did research and sought it out herself. This wasn’t any different. With her mind made, she ventured out into the station.

[ She’s spent hours browsing through the network, watching little interactions turn into hook-ups and the various reactions to the manipulations of the station. Just from a short time, she could already tell which of the participants were used to it, and which found it outrageous. She wondered what sort of Psychological effects the ones who have accepted it went through. Are they traumatized? Have their personal standards been unaltered? Were they psychologically sound? Adaptability was a key human component, after all.

Humans were truly fascinating.

Greetings, Lagunbiru. My name is Moira O’Deorain. I am a Geneticist. It seems that I will be staying at an indeterminate amount of time amongst your numbers, so I thought it prudent to introduce myself. If possible, I would prefer civility among us, though we may discuss otherwise in the bedroom.

[ Clears her throat. ]

I am also aware that some of my colleagues… and former colleagues are here. To my colleagues, I wish to converse about information, possibly share resources. This cabin is rather… bare. To my former colleagues, I bear no ill will. I will stay out of your way if you stay out of mine.

Before I sign off, here is my “Bingo” card. [ Pauses, as if disgusted by the word ] To those interested, we may discuss arrangements that are mutually beneficial for all parties involved.

That is all.
